Danger Muffin’s Transportation Tips

BART will probably not be an option for transportation due to the strike, so here are a few alternative ideas for getting to the bout:

Driving
Parking in the mission at a lot or garage will probably run you $20 for the day + $5 bridge toll = $25. 4-person carpool thus is paying $6.25 each, and it’s pretty easy. But someone has to drive.

For FREE parking, you can drive into the mission and just drive around until you find something on the street. I recommend driving east on 14th and west on 15th, and checking side streets. You can probably find something within a 1/2 to 3/4 mile walk of the armory. No meters on 14th St between Guerrero and Market to the west, or after Capp to the east. No meters on those streets, either. Now you’re just paying toll = $5 = $1.25 / person to carpool. But you gotta walk. Walk with a buddy after dark. (Plus gas.)

You could also carpool to a free parking spot somewhere else and then take the MUNI (SF busses and trains) to the armory. Four bus lines go straight there: 14, 14L, 49, and 33. Those go to SOMA, SOMA, the Marina, and the Castro/Haight, respectively…so you can park in those areas and then transit in/out just fine. That’s $5 toll + $2 muni each = $3.25 / person. This is complicated. (Plus gas.)

MUNI
For MUNI trains, that go up Market St, those stop at 14th & Church, which is right next to the afterparty and 4 blocks from the bout.

AC Transit
Fully public transit options STILL EXIST! Coming from the east bay, you’ll need to take AC Transit. Go to their “trans-bay service” page. It’s $4.20 from the East Bay to the SF Transbay Terminal. From the Transbay Terminal (the Main St / Beale St / Folsom St / Howard St block), walk one block to Mission St, and take the 14 or the 14L direct to the venue. That’s $2 more. Total cost: $6.20 each. This is “kind of a pain,” but not a huge one. It’ll take maybe an hour, depending on traffic. If the bus is really full, get a buddy and sing heavy metal songs. See how many people will join in!

It’s also about a $10 cab ride from the Transbay Terminal to the venue. So if 4 people bussed over together and shared a cab, you’re looking at $8.70 each.

Taxi
Sharing a cab all the way from Oakland will be $40 + tip ($10 / person) at the very minimum. More if there’s traffic, more if the cab driver makes you pay toll. My best guess to GET there is gonna be $65 including tip = $16.25 / person. This is the easiest and fastest if you wanna go balls out.

Getting Home
Getting HOME is just the reverse in all cases, but you need a buddy. AC/Transit after 2am by yourself is scary. With a buddy it’s a “good story.” The 14 bus runs until 3am from the venue. Getting home from the afterparty is similarly easy – take the N-OWL bus from the afterparty to Embarcadero & Howard ($2), walk two blocks to the Transbay Terminal. This bus runs all night (unlike BART).

Note that ALL of these transit options will take your bike, too. So you could just take the AC/Transit across the bay and then bike to the venue. (It’s 2.7 miles.) More information about riding your bike during the BART strike on SF Bike.
