2020 Reckless Skate Camps Announced

Reckless Rollers Skate Camp is a progressive skating clinic aimed at getting beginner skaters ready for entry-level roller derby. Below are some important details to get you started

We are excited to announce two camps for the 2020 season! July 20th- September 12th, 2020 and September 28th- November 21st, 2020. Each camp will hold practices on Monday 7-9pm and Saturday 10am-12pm. On the last Saturday of each camp BAD will hold league tryouts, which are included in your camp package, giving you the opportunity to show us all that you’ve learned and continue on your journey to join our league.

During practices, BAD Reckless Roller Coaches will teach a structured agenda starting from the very beginner level skills and building up to the minimum skills required to join a WFTDA roller derby league. This camp works to prepare new skaters for league tryouts.

The Bay Area Derby Reckless Skate Camp will teach you the basics of the flat track roller derby environment. We’ll break down essential skills, such as proper derby stance, stopping techniques, fluid movement on the track, laterals, jumping and weaving. During class, we will also focus on essential aspects of the game, including partner and pack work, blocking and hitting.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Open to women and gender expansive people who are at least 18 years old, and interested in learning how to play flat track roller derby under the WFTDA ruleset. Before you begin camp, you must be able to:

  • balance/roll on skates with no outside assistance
  • stay active for up to two hours at a time
  • exert yourself physically and mentally throughout the session

Attendance at every session is not required but highly encouraged, as each class builds upon the previous one. No refunds will be given, including for missed sessions or drop-outs. We are limiting the camp to 40 skaters in order to provide each participant quality instruction and individual feedback. Register today to save your spot!

We encourage new skaters to join the Reckless Rollers Facebook group to connect with other skaters currently enrolled in the program, as well as to stay up to date about any potential Friday open skate cancellation.
