Derby Clinic and Tryouts
August 22, 2015 @ 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Dust off those roller skates and learn to skate like a BAD girl!
The Bay Area Derby Girls present a four session derby clinic aimed at getting beginner skaters ready for entry level derby play and to teach you the minimum required skills to participate in our Tryouts which will be held September 19 and 20, 2015. The BAD Pre-Tryout Derby Clinic is geared towards beginner skaters who want to skate in a derby environment. We’ll break-down the basics of proper derby stance, work on building muscles to maintain that stance, stopping techniques, fluid movement on the track, lateral movement, jumping and weaving. The latter part of the classes will be on partner and pack work, contact and game aspects, including blocking and hitting.
Derby Clinic Sessions – Saturdays 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12
Open to women, ages 18 and over interested in Roller Derby skating. You must have a basic ability to: balance/roll/skate with no outside assistance; be able to stay active for up to 2 hours at a time; and exert yourself physically and mentally throughout the session. Attendance at every session is not required, but each class builds upon the previous one so it’s important to attend all classes. No refunds will be given for missed sessions or drop-outs. We are limiting the clinic to 30 skaters so that we can provide each participant with quality instruction and individual feedback. Register today to save your spot!
All BAD Pre-Tryout Derby Clinic sessions will be held at the Bay Area Derby Girl’s Headquarters located at 2635 Peralta St., Oakland, CA 94607.
Registration is $239 per skater, and includes current applicable WFTDA insurance
fees. The cost covers four 2-hour training sessions, as well as the cost of tryouts. As an added bonus, skaters will be welcome to skate in our Reckless Rollers program until tryouts!
Starting August 22, 2015 practices will be held on Saturdays 2:30-4:30 PM. Please arrive by 2:15 to get gear on and warmed up.
The full class schedule is: Saturdays 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12
